hardware synths vs. vst/vsti?

ok...I'm curious, I currently have a rack of samplers and synths, a carry over from my midi days... (aka 5000, Roland 550) and more.

I'm curious to know since the computers are getting far more powerful, and the vst's are getting so good, who has migrated to vst solutions and has abandoned hardware synth all together?

Cubase 5 volume of some VSTs keeps going to 0

This is a bit of an odd one.
I had my system working fine for several years, then my PC motherboard died.
I bought a replacement PC and re-installed everything.
But I now have an odd problem.

For SOME (but not all) VSTs, every so often (and this varies from 1 second to 10 minutes) the volume on the instrument drops to zero.

Using VST live without a laptop

Hi! Has anyone invented a pedalboard for guitar that runs VST plugins? I've got great tones for my recordings using VST amps like Amplitube, but can't reproduce them live on stage because I can't run a VST.

I saw the vPed. It looks great, but I can't get it here in the States.

Hope I'm in the right sub-forum!

Thanks!

Free VST from Eventide

The Ultrachannel.
Available as RTAS, AAX, VST.

A nice channel strip plug from Eventide - EQ, Gate, Compression, De-esser, Stereo Delay, micro pitch tune. I've had a chance to play with it a little. Nice function, decent GUI, does what it claims.

Free. No conditions. No demo limits, fully functional, but only available till July 1, after which the price is $249.
