i'm in the market for a stereo reel-to-reel recorder. basically i just want to record drums and percussion and then bouce to my hard disk. so nothing too complicated or fancy, but i want something that sounds good. also i don't want to spend too much (less than $350) anybody got buying advice: what to buy and what to look for when buying? much thanks in advance... so far i've been told "Revox b77"...

Otari or Tascam'll do ya as well. Make sure that the heads have some life left and that the deck has been well maintained and functions properly. THere are a bunch of mechanical parts that just plain wear out and some are unobtanium these days.

Go for the biggest tape width and track size you can. A 1/2" 2-track that could do 15 and 30ips would be pretty nice as a 2 track mastering/recorder. May cost a bit more than $350.

Well recorded drums will probably sound better on a DAW then they will on any R-R you can get for under $350.
