Well, I just got some money to start a home recording studio...
Here's what I'm looking at buying:
Multi-tracker:
Tascan DP-01fx
Reference Monitors:
M-Audio BX8 Studiophiles
Mic Preamp:
PreSonus Bluetube DP
Outboard Mixer:
Yamaha MG 10
Compression:
PreSonus Comp 16 Compressor
Headphones:
Audio-Technica ATH-M30
Condenser Mics:
MXL 990
MXL 993
That's about it, for now. I already have an SM57 and an SM58 for live situations, but I might use those for recordings as well.
Is there any recommendations for something in place of any of the things listed?
It's basically going to be used to make rough demos to hopefully get me some shows.
Thanks in advance.

The questions you need to answer are:
1) What is the purpose of my recordings? How good do my recordings need to be? (you have already answerd this--they need only be decent quality)
2) How many channels do I need to record at one time?
3) What instruments (including vox) will I be recording?
4) Can I use an existing computer?
5) What is my budget?
6) After answering questions 1-5, what gear purchases will help me best achieve my desired goal of producing demos?
The Tascam will probably give you decent results and already has mic preamps, so the Blutoob and Yamaha mixer are redundant and not needed.
Do you already have a computer? If so, instead of the Tascam a prosumer PCI recording card like the M-Audio Delta 44 and Sonar will give you better ADA conversion and much more power. The learning curve is a lot greater, though.
Try to audition some mics with your voice, you may find the SM57 beats most cheap condensers, maybe not.

I'll be recording drums, that's why I thought of the outboard mixer. I'm assuming the quality won't be as good using only two mics, instead of four.
So basically I'll be using two guitar tracks, one bass track, one or two vocal tracks, and one drum track(using the mixer.) I'll be playing all the intruments myself, so it won't really be necessary to record from a ton of sources at once.
I've heard that the preamps on the dp-01fx arent too great, that's why I was considering the Presonus.
My budget, as it stands, is about $1500. Eventually I might add on, but for now, I can't spend over $1500(that includes tax.)
I know I'm not going to get professional quality out of this, so I'd like to have it sound as good as it possibly can.

don't go with the MXL and go with studio projects C1 or B1s instead. Better to go with non-disposable mics that you might keep after you upgrade. Or better yet pay a little more for a 414...you'll be able to use that on tons of sources with awesome results.
