I don't use much limiting, but I just opened sonar and put the L1 on a track - the mono L1 - and I had no problems selecting my out put, there was no "default" at -3.

I'm thinking a reinstall might be in order, but you might want to wait for a few more people to chime in on this.

I tried updating my DAW and reinstalling the L1, and neither helped. Time to contact Waves support... :/

yeah, may be a bug in your version. Have you checked the Waves site for possible updates or patches?

When does the problem happen?
when recording to another track?
when boucing the stereo output?
when using it in audiosuite?

if the answer is one of the first 2 answers, couldn't it be that you pan is at center position of a stereo output??
that could be your problem!

It's happening all the time, not just while performing specific functions. That's a good idea, though. I was thinking it might have something to do with the pan pot, but I don't know how to tell or how to fix it.

Put a L1 on a mono track (with signal on it)! Adjust the threshold so you have some limiting happening! leave the out ceiling all the Way up!
Route it to a stereo track/bus! Record on that new track with the pan at center position!
what happens then?
Record the same thing but with the pan at far left position!
what happens then?
