Hello all, we've been thinking about picking up a 1/2" 2 track lately, as they seem to be all the rage. We're currently mixing to an Otari MX-5050BII-2, 1/4" @ 15 ips, and for what we do (underground & experimental rock music), it works great, and since it was free (save for the cost of an MRL and a JRF head report) we really can't complain.
Our tech is a die-hard Otari fan, and has suggested we pick up an MTR-12 or 10 and convert it, but I'm also interested in your opinions of MCI's JH110B and Studer's A80, both of which are in our price range (basically, $0 - $4000 or so).
A local room I work at occaissionally just picked up an A80, but they don't have much to say other than, "It rocks."
Thanks for your help.

I don't know much about the MCI, but in my opinion, the Studer and Ampex 1/2" half-track machines both sound better than the Otari. The Ampex is probably top-dog for rock, with the Studer a close second.
I can't say much else other than "they both rock!"
