Hey guys,
Many times I install plugins with a choice of directx or vst and I'm not sure which is better.
I'm using Sonar 6 PE.
I have a feeling that the plugin is the same (effectwise), but vst's are easier on the system load.
Any guidance appreciated.

The performance is the same. If there is any resource issues it has to do with that particular plugin. Cakewalk went with Microsoft directX warapper for Sonar. Steinberg used VST/I for Cubase. VST is the most popular format. Most audio programs now support both formats. At this point it really doesnt make a difference which way you go. There are several other formats that are supported under other audio programs ie: RTAS for Protools.
