if thats what you got, then thats what you got! you wont get a nice reference as to whats going to tape, but do some test tracks and check things visually (if your using a DAW, I presume). does the wave look good? any phasing? no clipping at the pre, converter? jam some closed ear haedphones against you head to try and hear what going to tape...but it wont ever be a great reference. i think you'll be fine. you will just have to do several test tracks to make sure everything is going to tape as you want it.

This is where goboes make all too much sense....Kinda like a brown bag as a backup on a blind date.

You have to hear what's going down somehow and in that situation it'll involve a lot of thorough listening back and re-adjustment of eq & mic placement.

Set up the best monitoring system possible (one you know, even if it means throwing your Hi-Fi in the back of a car) and listen to reference material on it in situ. If you have time, take drum files/mixes back to your studio/home and check them there before really going for it. Listen in cans when tracking. Keep listening back after each adjustment.

In a sense you will always be flying blind so you'll need to have a good idea of what information you want to capture - and make sure it's all there. I did a lot of this type of thing when I first started out and it takes a lot of time and patience to try to make up for the lack of a control room!
