This is old news but I had no idea where Studio One came from until now.

"Studio One, a new music creation and production application for Mac OS X and Windows XP/Vista, developed by KristalLabs in cooperation with PreSonus has been unveiled at Musikmesse Frankfurt."

"I started the project in 1999 for my diploma thesis. The original name Crystal Audio Engine was derived from the famous song "The Crystal Ship" by The Doors. There were in fact people trying to use the program and I received quite a lot requests until today. This lead me to continue working on it occasionally in my free time, after having it "on ice" for nearly two years. And here we are now, with a brand new version under a slightly different name. Here is a [="http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/gfx/Crystal_screen_old.jpg"]screenshot[/]="http://www.kreative…"]screenshot[/] of the original Crystal Audio Engine.

When you have Samplitude, you see no reason to use apple. I had far more issues with Apple and Pro Tools than I have ever had with this DAW and Window 7. The key is a good PC, a clean PC and don't get all cranked up over so many plug-ins. When you learn about Object editing, you don't even think like you used to with other DAW's.

But, each to our own. The main thing is the music. But, its nice to be saving money and not paying for all those plugins. Which is why I also use Samplitude. I don't need a bunch of $ third party software and DSP cards to make this thing work.

FWIW

or to add a bit more of what I heard,

They started to build a Mac version but found after a year invested, they would have had to compromise the features and stability of an already well coded system around Windows. They felt trying to split attention for the sake of profit was a dis service for the overall integrity this platform.
I have total respect for this company because of that.

I have always thought it shows weakness when you are trying to please everyone.
