Hello everyone,

I'm pretty new to this forum and I need some help on how to deaden a room for ADR.

I basically have a 13 by 10 foot room and about a 10 foot ceiling.

I understand that the recording has to be dead as I can get it in order to match either outside or inside set-sound recordings of voice for ADR.

I use Tube Traps and other baffling techniques with foam and such,

Does anyone know of a good carpet that deadens the room even further?

Also, what type of 1-inch fabric can I put up behind cloth on my walls?

Thank you for your time!

Hey!

The recording should not be as dead as can be......
As you said, you should match the location of the original recording, which means that you should have no reflections (or very little reflections) for an outside location, but you don't want that for an inside location.
You want adjustable acoustic so you can choose what match better to the orginal sound. And maybe additional mics in order to match distances...

Hope that helps.

What you want is a room with a little reflections in it, not too much but just enough to get that "not so dead" room feeling.
Take two mics, one close to the actors and another one a few meters away from the first one. Mix them together until you get something that goes with picture.
The second mic will help you give a little life to your "inside takes" as it will record the room and not the direct sound...

You are supposed to follow the picture...
Maybe you can help you by listening to the original takes...

When you're supposed to be outside, just forget the second mic and draw some kind of heavy drap around the actors (not too much), as you don't want reflection for those ones.

And i believe the rule for cartoons is that you always do it with a little reflections.
