Check out the Maxtor IDE 7200 RPM "L" drives with Fluid Dynamic Bearing Motors. I don't have one yet, but they get reviewed as being very quiet.

You may need a beefier power supply with higher total available current on the 3.3V and 5V rails( for those two power hungry AMD chips).

I think good brands are, PC Power and Cooling, Antec, Enermax, and POWMAX/Leadman(avoid the ones sold by Directron).

400-500watts of high quality power and a UPS to condition the line.

Make sure you get the correct power supply brand that Tyan reccomends...they reccomend you get EXACTLY what they tell you to get other wise you will be in troubleshooting hell....look over at the nuendo forums for tyan hell...

$2300??? Nay...
1) You may want to consider the Asus A7V266-M motherboard instead of the Tyan. Get a Swiftech MCX-462 heatsink with a Delta 80x80x38 fan.
2) Instead of two 256Mb mem sticks, get one 512 to allow for future expansion. You can get a Mushkin 512Mb stick for $120.
3) Get an Antec SX1040 case/PS.
4) Get a Creative Labs 52x CD ROM ... they ROCK.
5) Tommy P. hit the nail on the head. IBM drives are very problematic. Also, instead of the two 40s, get a 20 for your system drive and an 80 for your audio. MAXTOR model numbers are 6L020L1 and 6L080L4.
6) Before you settle on a video card, decide what software you are going to run, then find out what video cards work best with it. DAW software can be very picky about video cards.
7) Check out the Microsoft Office Keyboard and the Microsoft Trackball Optical. The extra programability on both units makes your life MUCH easier.

I thought I'd chime in about the Mobo. I think you would do better with the Asus board over the Tyan. The Tiger doesn't support 64bit PCI cards. And I've always had a solid system when using Asus boards.

I don't see any reason that rackmounting would be any problem. It's just a matter of what you need...
My $1600-1700 "guestimate" was pretty much right-on what you'd spend for your complete tower, kbd, & trackball. I added it all up (with pricewatch prices plus shipping), and left lee-way for cabling, paste, shim, etc.
I believe the SX1040B was about $140 with shipping. That does include the killer Antec 400 watt PS. So, if you want the rack mount, deduct the $140 from my guestimate, add the price of the rack gear and the PS you want, and you'll have your new approximate total.
When I was figuring this stuff out, I couldn't figure how you came up with a $2300 total. Best advice to give you is to make sure you use pricewatch.com. You'll USUALLY get your best prices through there.
