Alright so I know what the purpose of a LD Condenser microphone on the outside of a kick drum (resonant head) is used for (ie. fuller more deep sound) but my question is what do those of you who use this second mic do with it.

Do you just combine the tracks in the mixer going into either software or tape? Or do you keep it seperate.

If you have a seperate track going do you add any compression? How about EQ?

I'm expanding my in's on my studio so this means more delicious drum micing, thanks!

I use the second mic to bring in the body. I actually tried a QTC 50 for this app recently, I was super surpised when it did not overload. Its added just enough body.

I used a D112 on the beater. We ended up doing the old cardboard roll trick on the beater to increase the slap a bit. It worked like a charm. The QTC50 (small diaphram) was used on the other side, back a bit more than normal. The combination of the two really made the kick sound massive and tight.

But I typically use the other mics (with a phase change cable) to bring in more body.
