Tomorrow, I'm recording someone playing acoustic guitar, and I may not have access to a mic stand. Can I just hold the mic? I know my hand will get tired, but it's a really simple part for a four minute song that I need to record. Btw I'm using a RODE NT2-a tomorrow (not mine, I'm borrowing it).

No, don't hold it. It would be better to dangle the mic on its lead from a projecting wooden beam or pole attached to a chair than to have your sub-audio hand movements modulating the audio. Use the HP filter switch on the mic and set it to cardioid pattern.
