DownSouth:

Considering mixing in Pro Tools in the near future. I would definitely have to upgrade my current rig. I am thinking about Crane Song Spider (if I can find one yet), have the PT 24bit ADAT interface, but need a few more Mix Farms (w/ new Sony EQ plugin - already have Waves, BombFactory, Reverb One, and McDSP Analog channel). I have an also have a 1/2" Studer but might get a Crane Song Hedd 192, & Tascam 24bit DAT. I know nothing will ever sound like analog 2" to SSL to 1/2", but for R&B/Hip Hop I think we can make it happen.

Sounds like a good setup to me. The only thing you've missed out is a masterclock, which you'll need to get the best out of your system. The cheapest option with your setup would be a Lucid Gen6x96 (US$699 list). If your Studer has a reference input (video ref in or video sync in) you might consider getting a Nanosyncs which will clock your Studer together with your digital gear.

You've got some good gear in your list, the Cranesong, the Tascam and of course your plugs. It would be a shame to take away from this quality by not properly clocking your system.

The only plugs I can think of off the top of my head that you may find really useful are: Wave Mechanics "PitchBlender" and the Waves L2. I believe demos of both plugs are available.

Hope this helps,

Greg
