I can get a copy of reason 5 and maybe record, but will probaly use Ableton to begin with. I have no idea what I'm doing, if anyone's willing to offer some advice, I'm all ears.

Why buy software when you should already have Garageband included with iLife for free? If you outgrow it, you can seemlessly upgrade to Logic Express or Pro.

Plenty of those around, you just need to give us a clue on how much money you are willing to spend.
Prices ranges from 100$ to thousands of dollars :)
