I've been using Nero Express for burning CDs from my DAW (I use PT).

I want to burn DVDs as an additional backup mechanism and Nero Express does not seem to do that (unless I'm missing something). So I'm looking for new software. If I got something that also gave me more control over the format of CDs that would be nice. (And it would force me to learn about correct CD formating standards.)

Nero 9 gets terrible reviews. What is out there that you would recommend?

BobRogers:

I bought this software Easy CD/DA Extractor Professional and have used it exclusively for conversion and creating CD's, DVD's. MP3's WAV's for a few years now. I absolutely would recommend it! Works great everytime, it's fast and reliable plus it will do just about any audio file conversion you can think of...and well worth the $40...
I have Roxio on my computer which I never use and I've used Nero and I think this software is the best!
Check it out...

Thanks. I downloaded the demo and while the interface looks nice, it hasn't been working correctly. Also, for the demo the help/manual is on line only. That's a pain for using on my DAW machine which is an internet virgin. Is the demo identical to the authorized software? I'll get in touch with them of course.

Update: Works better on my laptop. (Connected to the internet.) I'll have to find out about the ability to run the program off the internet. The price is nice and it seems nice and stripped down. Not a resource hog. Simple program for a simple job. (Reviews of, e.g., Roxio and Nero say the opposite.)

It doesn't need internet to run. The only interent feature I know about would be the freedb or MusicBrainz internet database feature. That isn't needed unless you're looking for the ID tag info for commercial CD's or MP3's.

The Help manual can be downloaded as a local copy from their website.
Click on the Help, "Getting Started" and at the bottom you should see:
Local copy of this Help "Download". Unzip the file and you get the standard Help menu on your computer.

I always check CNET as one of my resource's for reviews of software and equipment...they seem to provide pretty good accurate info.

They have other reviews of all the other stuff out there including Nero and Roxio...which are fine programs just bulky and bloated...
For the price and ease of use it has worked flawlessly for me. Of course I'm using a PC, not sure about Mac..

I'm sure there are other products out there but this one had everything I needed to convert and burn.

You might need something beyond or different than my needs....I would do some tests with the trial version and decide from there..
