I have been doing some research on some good authentic software instruments. And I came across Colossus from East West/Quantum Leap. From what I read it seems to have all the instuments I need, piano, orchestra, bass, strings the whole nine yards. Im alittle new to the midi software game. My question is has anybody heard these instruments and the quality of them? Also will I be able to work off a midi keyboard and play my own music instead of just using a loop?

If you are new to software instruments, Colossus is probably a good place to start. I don't have it but have several other libraries East West. It won't be as complete on any one instrument as a dedicated library would, but it should serve you quite well, and be easier to start with than managing a larger dedicated library.

Yes, you would be able to play your own parts rather than just loading up loops - I'm not sure it even includes any performance loops, but might - seems to be mostly multisample instruments.
