Hey guys,

I'm in need of some advice! I'm looking for a new Audio Interface (maximum £300) I'm am not sure what you guys recomend. I'm currently using an M-Box 2 which has all the features I need but it's been nothing but problematic.

I'm looking for something that is reliable and stable operating alongside Windows 7 64bit.

I've had my M-Box 2 since January and even now after Digidesign released the 8.0.4 drivers which are supposed to be stable in windows 7 64bit there are still bugs unaddressed. Since they have just released the new M-Box 3 and Pro Tools 9 I'm guessing I won't be seeing anymore updates.

I'm getting the odd pop and click whilst playing back any audio whether its in windows media player or Pro Tools and everytime I restart my computer, unless I switch the power off at the wall I get horrible crackly white noise. its just not ideal!.

So yes! I've had enough! I want something new. I didn't want to give up Pro Tools and I will get it eventually again I just didn't want to spend £600 but I'll deal with that when the time comes.

Cheers guys.

How many mic input channels do you need? How many outputs?

For a 2-input device, the TC Electronic Impact Twin comes in around your price range. You could also consider the Edirol FA-66, or possibly the Focusrite Saffire Pro24.

If you need more than two inputs, there's not much worth having at £300 or less. However, if you are not in an extreme hurry, it's worth keeping an eye on Ebay (UK). Reasonable interfaces do crop up quite regularly in this price range, although there's nothing much there at the moment.

Down at this end of the market, a lot of the USB interfaces are all pretty much the same, and very few stand out. With that in mind, I would look at something like an EMU 0404 USB, or else stretch your budget to the new RME Babyface.

Despite the RME copy saying "The Babyface is smooth on the outside for looks and feel, but has the balls inside", it is nevertheless a fully-developed product.

The Saffire Pro24 is FireWire, by the way.
