I'm looking to purchase a sampler for my home studio. I run a hard disk systemwith the usual Roland gear (VS series stuff, etc.) I record a lot of nouveau flamenco type stuff and need additional ethnic drum sounds etc. I have been looking at the Akai s3000 XL, s 5000, EMU stuff, etc. I want to get into the sampling world slowly and not spend $2000 right away. Any thoughts on the best buy regarding sound libraries, price etc.?

For hardware sampler, I just adore the E-mu Ultra Series for it's ease of use, big LCD display, solid OS, DSP power, features and flexability. For the near future, various upgrades can be added latter. The only real complaint is the 128MB max memory and 16-bit/48kHz limits but you can still get some very good results with one. They sure have dropped in price from just a few years ago. Quite the bargin.

they are excellent and now you can find them for about 350 on ebay
they can get quite complex but that's why i like them
the akai S3000 is cool too but they are 32 megs only so thats kinda limited :s:
maybe and S5000 or S6000 would be better for your needs
For about $350.00 (more or less) you can get your hands on MOTUs
For about $350.00 (more or less) you can get your hands on MOTUs' "Machfive Universal Sampler". It's capable of importing/loading & playing back of any sample format. This is one I'll give a good look too. Also I have a friend who loves using it. Now if you prefer a hardware based sampler and your not impressed by the latest bells & wistles, then I'd look into a decent used sampler. Plenty are being traded in now-a-days.
