Taking Midi track and setting it up for Audio track recording. Have virtual synth set to audio track and indeed, I see the green level bars move on the audio track, however as soon as I click the record button, it seems to disable the input to that audio track and simply records nothing...level indicator shows nothing. If I disable the record...I can see the levels again. Any one ever run into this?

I figured it out last night....it helps to read the manual..."bounce to track(s)" is the solution.
Although its kinda curious....when you bounce to track, it performs the recording function in the background for about 30 seconds....This is a departure of the feeling that you have to wait for something to record....This function essentially crunches the numbers behind the scenes and you end up with a perfectly recorded track in a few seconds.... Very useful albeit a different way of thinking.
