Hello, all. Does anyone know the Micing and EQ technique, employed by, he one, Andy Wallace, for kick and snare? I have tried everything under the sun and can not get close.

I would also like to kow the secret to Lord Alge's mix (drums) on the new Switchfoot release, "Nothing is Sound". This stuff is brimming with presence and tone. Gotta love the fat, punchy snare hits!

Thanks, "Scuba" Steve

you like the drum tone on nothing is sound, snare sounds great, toms sound ok, i think kick sounds like crap. I know there are alot of guys that are in to that clicking kick sound but not me. I like a little resonance but i suppose its all a matter of what you like. Over all though I would say thats a great record to study overall as far as recording. vox and guitar are superb. Plus good music

i know that my friend worked on that album a bit, and i know his tricks. I can't speak from the mixing side, but from the engineering side, it has almost all to do with a great sounding studio, vintage API console, great mics and a great ear. I also know that my friend uses the vari-mu compressor on the drum bus quite often at the studios that switchfoot has recorded quite a bit at ([="http://www.bigfishrecording.com/"]big fish[/]="http://www.bigfishr…"]big fish[/] and [[url=http://="http://www.signatur…"]signature sound[/]="http://www.signatur…"]signature sound[/] in san diego) both of these studios have an amazing mic collection and great sounding rooms for drums.

but i would have to agree with everyone else's guess that triggers are what actually gets the sound "there" in the final mix.

thats cool. I do know that they spent a lot of time tracking while on the road. a lot of work was done in dressing rooms, but the drums were tracked in the studio. just goes to show what can be accomplished with a good laptop, good pre's, and a couple of good mics. I have to agree, amazing blends and guitar sounds
