Hello MTPAPA121,
I have garageband too. If you are using the amp simulator and want to get rid of the hiss you will have to edit it out. Fade in and out so the noise is gone when you need silence. if you look at the track when it is selected there is a triangle shaped button, next to the red dot record button. Look all the way to the right and you will see that the triangle is pointing down. Push that and a track volume header will appear along with its automation grid. Use the grid to make volume changes with your mouse. You just draw the volume up or down by using your mouse to make dots that connect together to automate your track. Another thing you may want to consider using a humbucking pickup on your guitar. That helps get rid of interference caused by electric guitar pickups.

hope that helps,

Well that explains the noise and hiss. Time to get an audio interface. Next problem will be latency, then track synchronization, then overall audio quality where everything just sounds a little too thin, then ...

If there was a thread entitled "Why shouldn't I use my built in sound card?" It would go on forever with reasons.
