This should be an easy one for those with experience building a DAW.
I'm putting it together today. My 2 IDE devices are 1- 80GB Seagate Hard Drive and 1- Pioneer DVD-RW. My questions are:
1) Should I plug the HD into the PRI_IDE and the DVD/RW into the "SEC_IDE" port on the mobo?
What confused me is that ZipZoomFly sent me an IDE cable that has 2 plugs: one labelled "Master" and one labelled "Slave", which
both go into one IDE plug. Am I supposed to use this cable and hook both devices into one IDE port, use 2 separate cables (which came with the mobo) and hook the 2 devices into separate ports?
2) What Master/Slave jumper settings do I use on the 2 devices?
3) I bought an SATA audio storage, 160 GB Hard Drive. I assume it will plug into "SATA1" on the mobo. Do I need any special bios, or other settings for this to work? Or, will Win XP pick it up with no problem?
This forum has really been a great source of help. I appreciate anyone taking the time to help me out!

First off, do NOT put the HD and the DVD drive o nthe same cable. THis will severely diminish the performance of the HD if the DVD is also being accessed.
Best thing would be to setup both devices as master on each IDE channel. As for the Sata, if it is built into the MB and you are not using it as your primary boot device then WIn XP sohuld fidn it no problem.

BUT, XP is not picking up my SATA Hard Drive... I've read about RAID and I don't think it applies here does it? You can set up the "Serial ATA as RAID" option in the bios.

Ditto what Big_D said. You will NOT see the SATA drive in Windows until you Partition+FORMAT it from the "Disk Management" screen in Windows (Right Click "My Computer" > "Manage").
The "RAID" driver (Probably a "Fast-trak ATA" driver) should only be an issue if using the Promise controller (or non-southbridge chip) for the SATA HD. If you are on the "SATA1" port, you should be OK w/o any drivers (unless you have one of the MoBo's Big_D was hinting at).
Also, make sure you are in "Enhanced mode" - not "Compatibility Mode" in your BIOS SATA settings. (I might have the nomenclature wrong, but one mode ONLY alows 4 TOTAL devices on PATA and SATA for older OS compatibility).

Excellent direction guys. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I got involved with getting my soundcard up and running last night.
Big_D, I did install the RAID driver. The disk was not formatted. So, I right clicked on the drive in Disk Mgt., partitioned it in two, and formatted it per Randyman's advice. Voila, it's now showing up in Windows Explorer as Drive E. I'll have to go back and format the other half of the disk now.

If your case has a spot for it, you can add a CDR drive on the slave side of the cable. I have two 120G hard drives on IDE 1 ( I use D: for audio files so if C: crashes, I don't lose work) and a DVDR/RW and CDR/RW as master/slave on IDE 2. Hope this helps.
