I want a Distrssor with Brit Mod. Cant afford one, but heard some pleasant things about the SC2 from Joemeek . I know some of their newer stuff is Chinese junk (or, so Ive heard from many), but some of their higher-end/older models are actually quite usable, and quite good! is this one made in China? not that Chinese stuff is auto-bad..i know some of the SE mics are pretty good, for instance...

In the larger scheme of things most of these types of things like the Meek and RNC are really pretty much crap. But the RNC is the "best of the crap" imo. No flame intended. I know lots of people who use the RNC with good results ... it's not a UREI though.
I would recoomend that you look around for an old used Valley People Dynamite .... I have seen them going for a hundred bucks on E Bay. It's a vca type comp that is also an expander / gate or de esser.

They can be had for a small price (500-600 USD), and they can do a nice thing. I would not compare it to a distressor, which is a different animal. It is usable, but it is its own sound. Please bear in mind the following:
1. There is NO support for these out there. If it breaks, you'll have to find someone to do custom work on it.
2. There is high deviation on these boxes, some good, some bad.
3. The stereo imaging can be goofy.
If you are looking for something as a "holy grail" type of box, this is most likely not it. If you get one for a cheap price that works well, they can be fun.
I have one which has caused me much..errm..distress! Let me know if you find any of the above info to be inaccurate, that I can get mine to work properly!
