I just recently purchased the m-audio solo. I was previously using an m-audio audio buddy as a preamp which then ran into the line-in on my soundblaster audigy 2. Wanting to record through something other than the soundcard, I upgraded to a standalone interface. however, now when I record, no matter what program I choose, I am only recording the left channel. I am still using the soundblaster in the sense that I am using it's firewire port, but I don't see why that would eliminate the right channel. Also, I noticed that it says requires windows xp and I am using 2000. I also don't see why this would be the cause since everything else about it works fine as well as all software included with it. The box shows a "firewire solo control panel" but I cannot locate it anywhere on the disc or on my computer after installing drivers. Perhaps this could help?
If anyone knows anything on this PLEASE let me know what to do! I hate buying something and not being able to use it... :(

You could still email M-Audio tech support and ask them "Not at all?"... Could be only SOME un-needed features aren't available OR it just might not work, period, or it may work, but only if there is no Audigy, installed, or, it may work, but only in the left channel? Worth an ask..?

When you record, are you recording a stereo source. As in using two mics or from a stereo wav file, cd, or sample library? If you are not using a stereo source then you will only get mono. That is anything in the "left" or #1 input will either have to be panned center or if it is panned left, will only sound in the left speaker.

The control panel sounds like it "should" be installed when you install the M-Audio software? My "Lynx Mixer", for instance, shows an icon in the icon panel down by the clock? This sort of thing....... What DO the instructions say about this??? Now you've got me wondering.
You're right though, you should never buy something before you know how to use it, at least basically - whether it will work with your system, basic hookup, features, etc. These days the manuals for everything are a free download - prior to purchase.
Likely just a "click" somewhere?
