heyya I'm just starting out, but how does a midi usb cable work?

i mean, all the voices transmitted from the keyboard to the computer (software sequencer, eg. sonar) thru the usb?

so the usb end goes into the usb port whereas the other split end goes into the keyboard out 2/R?

It won't transmit "voices" from the keyboard only midi data. That is, it's not going to be used to record sounds, only your performance. Then you can edit the performance if needed and apply whatever sound to it that you want (i.e. piano, organ, strings, etc...). And yes, the usb end goed into your computer and the "in" adaptor plugs into the midi out of your keyboard, but usually there will also be some software/driver installation invovled as well.

You play your part on the keyboard and it is recorded into the sequencing software. Then, in the software, you can choose what sound is applied to your performance after you have already played it. Make sense?

Yes, but keep in mind that you are not recording the actual sounds. You are recording the performance in midi form, meaning the computer is taking note of the notes you play at what velocity and at what time. The fact that it's not recording the sounds is a good thing, in this case. In your software, you should be able to go in and fix bad notes and copy and paste parts fairly easily. And the best part is you can change an organ part to a string orchestra at the click of a button. And there are tons of cool sounds out there to choose form, many of which are free.
