I would like a 24 + track mixer. i know u think i don't need all of that but i want a big mixing board. so please don't tell me to just buy an 8 track mixing board. but i've read that Cool edit pro is only complatiable with 8track mixing boards. is that true? but look, all i want to know is what mixing boards are compatible and what all i need to buy. if anyone has some ideas let me know. i've got a big enough harddrive and firewire ports up the ass. i've got a sound audigy 2 ZS pro so hopefully i don't need to buy a new card. i also believe i need to buy a preamp. any suggestions? i've got a link for u people to check out so let me know if its gonna work. i talked to one of my buddies who suggested this board. let know what u think. thanks

The mixer has nothing to do with the software.
if you want to record 24 tracks, in addition to enough mic preamps (which your mixer may provide) you need a sound card with 24 inputs.

I use a MOTU 24i.

Cool Edit Pro will record up to 32 mono tracks.

[edit] I wrote my reply before looking at your link. I didn't realize you were looking at a digital mixer. I don't enough about what you can get out of a digital mixer that can be fed into a PC to know if this would work. My mixers are analog and I feed an analog signal in to the MOTU unit which is my A/D. [/edit]

I didn't see the fraudigy reference.

Yes, you need a new sound card. Your Audigy will "record" 2 tracks with CEP. CEP (now Adobe Audition) does not support ASIO which would allow you to record more than two tracks with the Audigy.

If you want to be able to record 24 tracks, you need a card with 24 inputs. Your mixer would likely just be a bank of 24 mic preamps - that's how my mixers get used for recording. Comes in handy for monitoring and foldback.
