To gain the most of a laptop battery you have to turn down the screen brightness. The bigger the screen the more it's a battery whore. Also, look into auxiliary batteries. Some fit into optical bays and some universal batteries plug right into the power adapter port.

I mentioned this is the other thread that jg49 linked to, and that is to get hold of a 12V car adaptor for your laptop. Run it from one of those portable car batteries with cigar lighter outputs for the duration of the session. No mains connection = no hum.
Of course if the squealing is due to the power circuit in the laptop itself, you may not see a huge difference, but at least you will not be injecting large current spikes into the ground circuit.
