You should be fine.

If you point both apps to the same plug-ins folder you won't even need to copy the dll files.

Thanks IIRs...I was pretty sure it would be fine, but wanted to be sure I wasn't gonna cause trouble... and I was going to just "point" to the Steinberg VST folder so that was good to confirm!

Yeah: I point Tracktion and Reaper to the same plug-ins folder, and used to do the same with Cubase when I used it. Never been a problem. (I use a separate folder for plug-ins for Soundforge, buts thats just for convienience: there's only a small handful of plugs I ever want to use inside an editor, and its easier to copy those plugs to a new folder than to tell soundforge to ignore all the rest.)

ASIO drivers should be fine so long as you don't run both apps together... though I was actually under the impression that Sonar didn't use ASIO? Am I wrong?

I'm going to run two separate FW setups.
I only have one FW port on the computer (motherboard)
1.) RME FF800 with Cubase 4 (current setup)....
2.) A&H ZED16R board with it's included Sonar LE.
I believe the ZED has it's own ASIO drivers.

My thinking is to change FW cables, reset the drivers and sound card settings in XP, then run these separately...that's the plan anyway until I figure out if there's a workable combo setup using both...

The combo setup could be ADAT out from the ZED into RME for 16 additional channels thru the RME or analog mix bus out from ZED into RME as a straight converter at higher sample rates into Cubase...

If you plan on using the FF800 as the audio capture interface, you don't need to use the R16's FireWire connection for anything other than routing control. For recording, run the R16 ADAT outs into the FF800 ADAT ins for 16 channels of direct outputs. For mixdown, run 16 channels via ADAT out of the FF800 into the R16 and the stereo mix into a pair of line inputs on the FF800. It's a quirk of the R16 that the stereo mix is available digitally on its FireWire but not available via ADAT.

As a PS, I don't know how much R.M.E. paid RO to have a link inserted to their site every time their initials appear, but it's a visual pain, and evidently doesn't always survive the quoting process correctly.

Just to clarify, Sonar uses WDM drivers primarily but has recently added ASIO support. Not sure exactly which version added the support but it wasn't that long ago. Mayber version 5 or 6? Yes, I'm guessing.
