I already have the delta 1010 and the delta 44 so i'm decent with sound cards. My current system is a celeron 2.6 ghz with 256 mb ram an 80 gig hard drive. I know a decent amount about building computers I just don't know what audio applications need. Should I go for broke with the processor and mobo or should I invest in quality ram or value ram but a lot of it. I plan on using Nuendo and would like to be able to run at least 24 tracks with real time effects steadily. Do you think this is possible with a budget of 600 dollars?

For 600$ this is not possible...celeron CPU's are not as efficient in FPU's as the regular P4..

Real time is CPU intensive and if you are going to want to do that then a dual opteron machine would be best. That of course is MEGA bucks tho very much worth it.

More memory is indeed used for streaming samples but will not give you more track or plug in counts..it'll just help on faster loading and streaming of audio sample headers. Cheap ram is well, cheap..you get what you pay for, just remember that.
