What you didnt mention was that they are for the 24bit models only!! Not the old legacy 20bit units!! Damn! I have to get a new sound card!! I want the new 24bit layla...wonder what strings I can pull on that one!! Ha ha ha

Also...remember that 24bit units only record 20bits unless you are using 32bit float point then you are getting 24bit thru a workaround!! Ha ha ha ha ha!!!
Also the fact that I never record at 24bit..I record at 44/16 and get just the same results as recording at 24/48...simplicity man..they way to work!! lol!
Yes I do record at 24/48 on certain projects when asked for tho!!

Hammerfall...Shammerfall!!! Big Whoop! I've got a 1.44 MB floppy in my computer...*plus* a power cable that plugs into the wall!!! (impressed yet???) I do have the TASCAM US-428 as well, *plus* the PreSonus Digimax (the original one, not the LT)...so neener ...neener ...neeeeeeeener!!! :) :p

In all seriousness however...I do record at 24-bit/48 (or actually 32-bit floating point in Cubase)...so am I really getting a 24-bit input from the Layla, or is it only 20-bit???

I was going to investigate a 24/96 on my next project, and compare the results to 24/48. I hear that the latency actually goes *down* at 96 KHz...

You are actually getting 20 bits out of the layla....the last four bits are always noise bits or empty data bits...they are dropped off when entering into the computer..so when you use 32bit you round up the bits so that the last 8 are noise bits and this way you get 24bits out of 20bits..if that makes sense I'm amazed!! lol

Ya know...I've noticed the latency numbers got smaller when doing 96Khz as well...but to me I'm not mixing for a dog...I'm mixing for humans who cant even hear above 20Khz(x 2 over sampling that is!)

I was just reading in my UAD-1 manual last night (DSP card from Universal Audio), and they state that using theirplug-insat 96K uses twice the DSP power as when they are used at 48K...Sheesh! That sucks! Lower latency, but higher resource usage...

Like that's a big fucking surprise...96Khz is double the data pull...of course it's going to take more horsepower to run it...it has to think twice as much dude!! Geez....we take for granted that just because 96 is available it's going to make our lives easier or soemthing.

Wonder what fixes the implimented! Supposedly you should be able to set what channels are used for certain programs and so forth..at least that's what the guy from Echo told me!

Hehe...you mean they created a version for "the little people"??? lmao!!! :D

I had some issues with the last version (6.00) since I was trying to sync the Layla via ADAT, it would always open using the internal clock, and I'd have to reset it to ADAT every time. If I forgot, and turned up the monitors, the screaching sound would blow your ear drums! Talk about recording for dogs!! ;)

This has been thankfully fixed in 6.01!!! I see very little other changes...

Ummm...James....did you notice there is yet another update!! 6.03 now!!! lol
Have fun!! Havent checked out what it changes but I have a feeling it might be MIDI related..I tried using my Midi in and it caused my system to do very bad things...like causing the output to be a low frequency square wave and causing me to have to restart my machine! Doh!

No I didn't notice, but that ADAT syncing problem I mention above hasn't been fixed. It is different than it was before, and doesn't cause all the screeching, but it still syncs to the internal clock...maybe this new patch will fix it.
