I recently got a nice new IBM 40-gig hardrive for my Dell 550 and am loving having all this space, beautiful storage space. Problem is since intalling it, my system has developed some tics. Most notiably, my CD burner can't make a clean burn any more. While this may be coincidence, the timing leads me to believe it isn't. Also, the floppy won't work, not that I really ever use it, but still...

Now, I installed the new drive on the same bus as my CD ROM (as this is my third drive, I think it is the only available connection left). I believe the CD ROM is still set as master. Should the drive be master or slave?

Any tips on how to configure three drives, a CD Rom, and a burner all on one MB? I'm sure there must be some rules as to which devices should share ribbons and which sould be set as master.

Thanks in advance,

Three drives isnt something you want to be putting into your system unless you have the controllers for each one..One drive per controller. For example..one drive for the Primary and one drive for the secondary IDE bus. Whenever you put two drives on one IDE cable you lose bandwidth and get issues. Look at the post "starting from scratch" it goes over those issues. Check it out and let me know
