Does anyone have any info the Orange County company? From what I gather, this was a company making high end recording gear in the 70's. I could only find two products that they made, a stereo compressor/EQ and a Vocal Stresser of some sort.
At any rate, I've got one that is broken, and would like to get it fixed if it's worth it. It turns on, won't pass any signal, and one channel has nothing but hum in it. When I plug the outputs into my mixer and crank on the inputs and outputs all the way, it doesn't add any hiss or even turn the hum up at all. Any ideas? Anyone know a tech who can service this thing? Is it worth it?

I can't find that schematic. I probably gave it to the guy I sold it to, but I thought I might have saved a copy. Anyway, I got it from Rick Chinn, a guy who used to work at Mackie. IIRC I sent him some Neve schematics. If you have no luck with Rick, let me know and I'll try to get in touch with the guy I sold them to.

Hello, I am just now working on one of these units which I got in a trade for something I wasn't using. I will share some of the info I have managed to obtain. By the way the unit I have includes the CLX, PEQ and VS-l in the rack. I think this unit is suffering from the same problems. Initially when I fired it up the PEQ unit fried one of the tantalum caps in the power supply. That is a small PC board mounted on the inside of the rear cover plate. I just finished rebuilding that supply. Tested it and so far the unit fires up as regarding voltage being supplied to the unit. I am now working on the CLX and have it apart. What I notice is similar to what you describe. Unit fires up and seems to be functioning but it is not. The meter only goes to zero when the unit is turned off, other wise it shows somewhere in the neighborhood of -20 gain reduction. Be are that the XLR ins on the back of the rack have 3 as hot, not 2 which is more common. In the process of working on it I checked the main power supply which is mounted on the back of the rack which includes a transformer supplying the voltages via amphenol blue connectors. I am going to replace LN3900 chip which is a bipolar ic. May not be the problem. I will socket it. Also will be replacing all the caps on the 4 pc boards in the unit, possibly 4 transistors. Also the socketed AD818 as I suspect one of those is fried. Contrary to the urban legend about these units they are not exactly the same thing as the ADR FX760. They use IC's. The ADR was and is entirely discreet. No ic's

I had an Orange County. It's a knockoff of an AD+R Compex, only not discrete. Built like a tank, I think it had TL072s or 5532s. I thought it was a very good compressor for vocals and mix bus. I may still have the documentation, have to check my files.
