I realize it's pretty low end gear, but that ain't likely to change soon, so heres my querey.
I have a studio projects b1 running through an audio-buddy pe-amp, when I try to record my amp at even moderate levels the signal appears like it has been hit by a brickwall limiter far before it reaches 0db. when I turn up or down with the preamp gain the overall volume of the same limited signal appears. The only way to stop this seems to be to turn down the amp to sub "cowboy junkies" or "low" levels. I've tweaked and twisted knobs with no results, then it occured to me that the audio-buddy doesn't specify the voltage of its phantom power. I had assumed that all phantom power was 48v, was I wrong? could this be the problem? hmmm?

This was hashed out some time ago on RAP and HR. Apparantly, the Audiobuddy used to have a relatively low phantom power rating of around 32-35 volts. But later editions were more like 42-44 volts. So, I think it's somewhat below 48 volts, but not much. That could cause a problem on some mic's, but I doubt that a B1 would be that sensitive to it.
