hi,

i have had several hard drives suddenly fail on me in the last month.

i have tried to restore the drives but don't know how.

i have tried using recovery software to get at my lost files. its works and i can get my project files and the .wav files.

the problem is that the wav files are corrupt and have static through out.

the files were intact when i was using them and nothing has been written to the drives since their failure.

i assume that mechanically the drive are fine. other wise it would be a huge coincidence that these drive all suddenly failed.

i am also assuming that since i can recover many other types of files that the audio might actually still be intact on my drive and that my recovery proccess is flawed.

basically i am wondering:

a) is there anyway to fix errors on the drive so that they become accessible again. (i can view the drives, their labels and letters in windows xp my computer folder but can't view the any files when i open the drive folder)

b) is there a better way to recover the audio data.

thanks

rubim

I dont know if the drives are internal or external but if several failed consecutively then there might be a deeper problem than just a bad hard disc.

I believe windows XP has a error scan in it, I am not 100% sure though. Try searching in google for HD scanners that fix errors. Some errors might not be repairable but its worth a try.
