I've made a new a addition to my aspiring home-studio.
A Voice AC 30 Classic Custom 1x12 w/a Celestion NeoDog.
I have a few mics in my bag to choose from.
SM-57s. .of course
Peavey-PVM 328s
CAD E-200
RODE NT1000
Stereo pair RODE NT5s
I planned to use a 57 into my Brick. Is there a,"preferred," mic for Micing cabs?
What are some determining factors on deciding whether to use a powered mic or not?
Last but not least, techniques...Im all ears for ideas old and new, so long as they have logical explanations

I have a new appreciation for my good old 57 now that I plug it into my Brick. Love it on any guitar amp and snare that I've tried it on. The 57 provides a subtle dynamic compression that seem to work with that pre very well. Another thing to try, eh? And that E-200 might very well make a great "room mic" in conjunction with it.
BTW, when you're placing the 57 (or ANY mic) on an amp, try different points along the radius of the cone. Towards the center, it gets brighter, rounder as you get more to the outer edge...but you already knew that, right?
