the basic idea is fine

I would look to a better pre-amp that may also have the same simple features

phantom, polarity(phase), instrument input(DI)
I like the rotary switch for setting gain as you can re-visit setting very easy

on the ouput of the sound card you should have a switcher volutme control with some simple features like volume presets and mute and mono
with independant control of headphone level

I have a simple web page to help explain what I mean
http://www.diyfactory.com/projects/dawmonswitch/dawmonswitch_1.htm
you don't have to DIY this and there are some good products out there

keep it simple and cheap until you understand and know what you want
simplicity will give ease of use and let you get back to what you want to do ... record

yeah
all of that

you may find problems ... but everyone is different and has a different way to work
yes
you can only buy what is out there and available

yes ... noise and operational troubles

This is whay it is easy to recomend a quality Mic and a quality Mic-pre
money well spent and will be at home even in the best pro studios

You already have the audiophile 192 and the krk rokit 5 active monitors

The monitoring unit can be cheap ... for the time being
if it is just for solo/personal use and you want a little speaker and a little HP and some metering

then something like the presonus may suit
http://www.presonus.com/centralstation.html
it can also give you a taste of SDPF monitoring

I like the basic idea here as it is a rack unit with a remote
as you grow this may become more obvious as to why I like it

Mackie BIG knob

the Samson is very cheap and I think this is fine as an experiement

BUT
