So I was wondering...
In all studio pics I see, the speaker grill (? dunno how you call it) is always taken off because we all know speakers look cooler when you see the woofer/tweeter...Do you guys always leave them off? Up to now, I would keep them on thinking dust would damage the speaker if the ?grills? weren't on. Is this true? I would love to have cooler looking speakers! :lol:

I don't know why some people work with the grills off, but I've always done it so I can see the woofer excursion so I have an idea of what the 6x9 Jensens will be doing in the back of Jimmy's bitchin' Camaro when he takes Suzie to the lake.
I wanna know that the bass is going to be there in force, but not to the point where it starts distorting and gets Suzie pissed to the point where Jimmy doesn't get the 'hummer' he so richly deserves.
Happy customers... if we don't have happy customers then nobody buys the record. To me it's important that I give a record every chance I possibly can to please the intended audience... and part of that is making sure that the bottom sits right on car speakers when they're turned up loud... the best way I've found to accomplish that task is to look at the how the cones on the woofers are or aren't bending.
NS-10M's were the best speaker in the world for this [when they had fresh woofers... when the woofers were soft they were useless for pretty much everything].
