I keep hearing about word clocks and how the RME products have such good ones. I basically understand that a good sync helps sound but basically nothing else. I have a Firestudio Mobile and am running Cubase SX3. Right now the synchronization setup is set to internal timecode and this is the only way I've ever recorded. Would I see any improvement in sound if I were to select ASIO audio device and use the Firestudio's clock?
I am recording rock music with audio tracks. The only midi I use is the EZdrummer program and I do not use any external midi controller with it.
I am reading the Cubase SX3 manual and it is telling me how to choose a word clock but I don't know which one would help my sound out the most.

You really only need to worry about "wordclock sync" if you are
You really only need to worry about "wordclock sync" if you are trying to run two or more separate devices together so they can lock in on the same exact timing. One device, it doesn't really matter, because it's already basically in time with itself. If you had two RME's, or an RME and something else, then you would want to choose the most stable one as master, and run the other from it.
You really also don't need wordclock on MIDI stuff.
Just because it's there doesn't mean you can, or have to, use it. No need to make it more complicated than you have to.
