I took the MSP5-s a few years ago. Without the a, the difference is that my pair does not have a mounting hole at the bottom. I have been very happy with them.

To me the factors were:
-- sounds bad with bad mixes (the whole idea if you ask me, a bad mix should sound like what it is).
-- rugged construction with protection in front of elements

I have a studio owning friend who LOVES her Tannoys! I certainly can't argue with her - she actually makes MONEY doing this crap!

Me? I will likely go with the Yamaha's in question. I have Yamahas now - The very cheapest of a few years ago, but just superb - unbelieveable really for the price and I'm going "up" with Yamaha, just for that reason. Of course many(Most?) of the "real" studios I go to still have the Yamaha SP10's(?), the white cones(?) and I "translate" to those well(Or at least I'm used to hearing me on those?) and hope the new versions will be "similar"(At least the good parts of "similar".).

i third the yamahas i got them a few years ago, great litle monitors, though i cannot speak bad about the tannoys either. ive heard bolth i recomend the yamahas though. -or- ive used bolth and in my studio i have yamahas.

C4, i guess the Tannoys must be 2nd hand at that price? I'm in Melbourne, and debating a similar choice at the moment. MusicLab and Musician's Warehouse have the Yamahas for ~$800, but the best price i've seen the Reveals for is ~$1450 (MW again). Good luck with your choice.

Axel, we are as sharp as ever over there in Bratislava. Hopefully more so than the average aussie 8). Game on, i suspect. I will report back when i make a 'decision'.

I have both the passive Reveals and the MSP5s and the passives can't hold a candle to the Yammies. Very different as well, so ok for comparison, and the active Reveals may be a wholly different beast, but worth comment.

easy tiger, i was referring to the price you listed there, 1450 dollar (aussie) is a bit steep for a pair of reveals, even actives, thou!!!

Yes, i agree aud$1450 is a lot for the Tannoys, although most suppliers are quoting the full retail of ~aud$2200!
I was watching a pair on eBay this morning, but the price got out of hand, so i think i'll go with the Yamahas.

Yeah probably the same pair I was watching haha.. I put on a max bid of 900ish but it went for 917. Would agree that getting above 900 is out of hand for second hand no warrantied reveals

Looks like we'll both have some new yamahas soon. Probably a better choice anyway.

I'm not sure if I want something a step above the MSP5s or maybe MSP5s and a sub? Just want a bit more bottom and I'm not that confident with the MSP5s bottom end...

Peace, yeah i just thought that the price is a bit heavy. reveals are dead cheap in the UK, so i thought it can't be that much more in australia... the actives go at digital village (very good supplier!) for just under 300quid a pair!! brand new! (but i think it's an offer too, 'cause the new D series reveals comming out around now!)
