I've had my 24io for about 8 months and I still haven't quite warmed to it. To put it mildly, it sounds cheap. I've been looking around at other options and this is what is within my price range:

Alesis HD24XR
Would be nice to be able to leave the PC at home. I've heard some good and bad things about this. Are the converters as good as they say? Will only do 12 tracks of 96k/24bit which kind of sucks.

(3) RME ADI-8 DS
The more I read about these, the more I like them. The price is very reasonable as well. I'm not too clear on how to interface them with my PC though.

Apogees are way out of my league right now.

Are there any other options?

Hi Pp,
I was a bit overwhelmed myself at first with the RME products but after some homework I narrowed it down to the Multiface and Fireface. The Fireface is the more expensive of the two but the you may well need the extra i/o's it provides if you are moving from a 24 i/o. It has the same converters as ADI 8 DS and is a very well reviewed unit. Im getting one myself. You can download the manual from RME's site
