I thought I had turned over every stone during my search for the perfect external firewire hard drive for me. I finally bought the LaCie d2 triple interface extreme. Everything was good until it mysteriously pooped out on me during a session. I've since got it working again, and recovered the data, but it put a big crimp in a session and left me less than confident in future performance.

Enter a client with a newly purchased Rocstor RocPro drive for his session. This thing (pardon the pun) rocks! NO clunky power supply, just an AC cable (built in transformer) and NO FAN! Silent drive. Then my "mentor" confirms that he's never heard of a Rocstor failing, and he sees them come through often. He has, however, heard of lots of failed LaCie's.

Damn, I wish I knew that before buying mine. Same price, too.

Uh, Axel, last time I used the drive utility in my mac to format my Lacie D2 160 I found out its actually a MAXTOR inside! I have also never had a problem with my Lacie FW or any of the 8 SCSI LaCie drives I own. They may not work as fast in a Protools HD setup but for my LE I never have had a problem with drive access.

OK, here are my apologies...
i always had very good experiences with maxtor drives, ehh.. actually there where the only ones i ever had no problems with... that is said ONLY with models being sold in the US or WESTERN europe!!! yeah, it seems that maxtor is producing "special" or very low quality drives for the rest of the market!, i can't proove it, just know that everyone i know and that's mostly pro audio and video people all have good results from maxtor purchased in the US or Western europe and ALL drives sucked purchased in Eastern europe or outside the US, seems strange or maybe is just a very weird coinsidence... ?? however i purchased my last drive a diamond max 250gb from the UK, and fine it is.
i know that in most lacies, maybee in all are hidden maxtors, but i don't consider them as real maxtors, as i know many people actually speially video guys which have several lacies and they all have major problems...
that's all
