Ive had no experience with recording vocals but i have myself the necessary equipment. I was just wondering, what is the correct way to go about recording?
What i mean is, is the vocalist supposed to have head phones on, and what is supposed to be playing through them?
Also, should there be any audio coming from my monitors? What should I be listening on/to?
How is it set up so that the audio can be split for the vocalist on myself?
Just hoping that you could help me with a quick overview.

Are you using an analog front end (mixingi board) or pure DAW? For the vocalist headphones, make sure that you are using closed-ear headphones (full can), not the rounded DJ headphones. This will help mitigate leakage into the MIC. So, the vocalist should be able to hear his or her self as well as the other music tracks.
If using a DAW, then I suggest you invest in a master control section such as a mackie big knob or central station. This will allow you a nice array of monitoring I/O. If this is not an option, then I suggest an inexpensive headphone distribution amplifers (pre-sonus). You can place this in the signal path from your DAW to your monitors as it has a balanced output for your monitors with a mute button for your monitors. I have used this configuration in the past with great success.
If you are using a board, you should have a headphone output or an extra stereo output in the master I/O section that would allow you to connect an external headphone distribution amp.
So, either way, I would highly recommend a headphone distribution amp.
