Great Reference Site
I found a great reference site for recording material. This may be old news to some of you, but I found it useful. The drums section was a big help, as I am now starting to get into Micing live drums, plus the links area is really good.

Bass DI (preamp) suggestions.
I am looking for something to record bass directly into my daw and also use live, preferrabley tube. I don't need a lot of bells and whistles, mostly just a preamp and compression type piece. I've already tried the Pod Pro for bass and didn't like it. I want something simple but of high quality. My budget is $1000. I've been considering several options which include:

Phantom Power on a tube mic
I was in a shop today testing preamps and the salesman freaked when I turned on phantom power(on mistake). We were using a tube mic, the RODE NTK and he said that the phantom power would harm the tube in a tube mic's power supply. I have never heard this, is this true?

Hispanic/Latino/Mexican Productions.
What is coming from South of the boarder is dynamite. I received some productions that..are so right on in dynamics, balance, and articulation.
PRAT (Pace, articulation, attack, and Timbre/Timing) is right on with the last 3 I received.
Take lessons and listen to this artform...both in performace and in engineering.

Tape Echo delemia
Hello all,
I recently recived some disturbing news, after looking into the very in-tree-ging Tube Echo unit built by Richard Beck in 1998, based on the famous Echoplex unit, (I have one from 1962!) called simply, "The Plex."

Modern Recording Techniques
Can anyone recommend a good book as a crash course in mixing/editing?
What about a website?
This site is good for specifics, but I am looking for something to give me the basics, something to build on.

chaining compressors - anyone actually doing it?
I am curious to know why there has been absolutely no discussion at recording.org on chaining multiple compressors in a row for individual tracks on mixdown. Does this mean that nobody is actually doing it?
Sonar inputs, Delta drivers - a Q for you guys
Hi threre,
It's not exactly a computing question but I post it here anyway since you guys seem to be quite competent and ready to help.
I have an ANUS PC and 2 cards – Audiophile 2496 and SBLive connected via SPDIF (I keep it for soundfont playback). The SBLive audio driver is not activated. I use Sonar 2.0 under win2k and the whole setup runs just fine.
Sync o pa tience...
Alrighty then. I gots me a Sonar 2at the end of a chain of machines: BRC--3ADATS--Motu2408II--Sonar
