Advice needed on 16 ch mixer for remote recordings?
I am going to take my business outside of the studio and record live shows. I need a mixer. 16 channel with direct outs on all 16ch. A talk back mic would be nice but I am sure doesnt usually come on such a small chassis. It would have to be rackmountable. Individual phantom would be agreat feature with some nice pres's. Any suggestions?

Any Sonar users left
Hey, let's say I am playing my guitar into Sonar, just freely. If I want to figure out what tempo I am playing at, Sonar helps me figure that out. However the ruler at the top of the window doesn't match up with the beats and measures I am playing. So I need to quantize right? Is it possible to quantize audio in Sonar?

What happens to MIDI in the computer?
Been trying to troubleshoot my MIDI setup. I have SOnar and three MIDI interfaces (Sound blaster, MIDIMAN USB and the one on my roland digital mixer). I understand how Sonar is suppose to patch ins to outs but what about when Sonar is not running? How does one particular MIDI in go out to one particular MIDI out?
Thanks
Mark

Newbie seeks wisdom of the elders
Is it at all possible to bounce, or save tracks in a digital format in PRO TOOLS any faster than real time. In other words, have two stereo tracks already saved (music), add in a mono track (voice), and then save as before burning to CD. Am I just dreaming or is it possible?

westlakes
I've been using Westlake BBSM10's for a few years and have been really happy with them; they are the first monitor I've used where I find the mixes are totally translatable every time.

Positioning Drum Room Mics
I have a great sounding studio drum kit (Ayotte/Paiste) and a great sounding wood/concrete/carpet room that measures approximately 20'x22'x11' high with a vaulted ceiling. It's professionally spec'd and acoustically treated (bass traps, dimensions, etc.) I know it's not large by drum room standards, but it sounds large and powerful.

I'm new, gimme a break!
Can digital files (.wav or mp3) be added to a DAW environment at anything faster than real time? My boss wants me to accomplish the impossible, but before I tell him he's nuts, I want to be armed with the facts. Thank You!

Does Everything Have to Sound Classic?
When tube amps and diaphram mics were invented do you think the studio engineers spent a lot of time trying to make everything sound like funnels and wax cylinders? How long did it take before they started taking advantage of their new tools?

Mixing in the 21st century
OK how many of you have joined the 21st century and at least attempted to mix entirely within a DAW (occaisional inserts allowed).
