Which is better-dat or CD-r?
I'm getting ready to purchase something to mix down to. I am going to be mixing from Adat. I am currently looking at Tascam and Marantz for CD-r and whatever I can find used for dat.
Which, in your opinion is better, a stand-alone CD-r or a dat deck, and why?
Thanks!

Manley 16 ch. Mixers as MAIN Console?
What does everyone think about the Manley 16 ch mixers as a main mixdown console to use for direct D/A from Protools? I will be purchasing the line in only version (2 of them linked for 32 channels) and will be using outboard pres to Pro Tools (from and to 2xAD8000SE and 2xDigi D/A).

digital question from analog dinosaur
I readily admit being almost totally clueless about digital recording technologies. Not having to support a family from recording means being able to surround myself with my favorite toys, regardless of whether they are practical, efficient or cost effective. I can happily play with my 30 and 40 year old analog toys, totally ignorant of the world passing me by.

1/2" 2 track questions
Hello all, we've been thinking about picking up a 1/2" 2 track lately, as they seem to be all the rage. We're currently mixing to an Otari MX-5050BII-2, 1/4" @ 15 ips, and for what we do (underground & experimental rock music), it works great, and since it was free (save for the cost of an MRL and a JRF head report) we really can't complain.

Keyboard pre-amp recommendation?
I have a friend with a ZR-76 (Ensoniq). We both feel the sound could be improved with a pre-amp and were wondering what you guys are using.
Do you recommend something like a dbx586(?) with tube warmth and digital outputs? (For digital tracking.)
Do you use stereo preamps and slightly vary the left and right outputs? Or set them the same?

MOTU on a PC
I'm back again with another question.
Is running a 1224 on a PC a problem? I realize audio desk is Mac only software, but I'm very comfortable w/ PCs and don't know squat about Apples. Does audio software on the PC support the 1224 OK, or is a Mac clearly the way to go?
Also, if I purchase a middle of the road G3 Mac to run this on what track counts can I expect?

Allen and Heath internal link option
Does anyone know how to switch the "internal link option" in an Allen and Heath board?
From what I understand this can make the direct outs pre-fader and post-eq which would be perfect for me.
I assume that it should be pretty easy, right? Does it require solder?
Any help or information would be a great help. Thanks,
