Pad recommendations for RCA BA31-C mic preamp?
I just picked this pre up and it seems everything I run through it is distorted. There are no input or output adjustments on it, so I guess I'm stuck with one level, but do I need a pad after the mic, before the pre?
If so, which one is transparent enough(model numbers please).
Also, has anyone else used this pre before?
Any applications where it excels?

Monitor suggestions
I need some suggestions for a pair of high-quality, accurate, close-field monitors for sound-design work. By "accurate," I simply mean as faithful a reproduction of the signal as I can reasonably get. Whether that means a perfect impulse response and a phase-aligned system or whatever other design spec, I don't really know.

I heard the strangest thing at Sam Ash today
 While waiting for Buddy Guy to go onstage at the Cerritos, CA Perf Arts Center tonight (Thursday) I was talking to the sales dude (can I even call them a rep?) and I noticed that they sell RNCs(!) I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw it. And they were $189.95. It almost looked different than mine. Older in a way. Maybe it was dusty.

Tips on home recording
Hi, I am new in this industry. Actually, I am a student interested in music recording and wish to produce my own mixes soon. Could anyone help give some tips on recording in the home using a PC?
I currently use audio softwares to mix my sounds.

Craig David's Fill me In.
Hi.
I just heard the Craig David's album and it blowed my mind. Great Sound, punch, clear, brilliant etc... The guy who showed me the CD told me that it was recorded on a cheap gear. It makes me curious..
So, if you know anything about this production, could you tell me more about it ? e.g Gear, Mics, pres, studio, producer, engeneere...
Thx in advance.

Paris & System 6000
Hey Dedric,
We will be getting the 6000 for our studio. I would like to know how to digitally interface to Paris. Don't care how complex, just want it done. But at no cost to sound quality. And I want to avoid converters as a last resort.
In-Christ, Jamey
:D

Basf 900/911, Quantegy 456/499/GP9
Hi,
I've just bought a 24 2", and need some suggestions on tapes. Unfortunately I don't have the possibilities to test all different brands, and the only one I've worked with was 456 on a Otari MX80.
I work mostly on rock tunes.
Any suggestion. .bias? calibrated to?

Which lower priced 2" 24-trk?
OK, OK, the people have spoken! It looks like our next step is to 2" analog. Our problem is we don't have $10k+ burning a hole in our pockets. We have at most $7k and if we could get that down to $5k, that would be even better.
