Big Upgrade to Home Studio Mic/Pre/Compressor
Hi everyone,
I am in the process of acoustically treating my studio room and waiting for the replacement of my MOTU 896HD (long story) and my NT2000 microphone... so I see that I will have around 4000-5000 USD free soon I want to upgrade my studio (my current setup I will place at the end so you can see what components are good/bad ugly).
affordable stereo microphone
I am in the market for buying a good sounding stereo microphone which will not break the bank. I record electric rock music including mellotrons,
vocal harmonies and would at times like to use it as OH's for the drums. Are there any stereo mics out there that can withstand high spl's yet catch the smoothness of a 4part vocal harmony or capture the full range of an acoustic guitar?

ribbon mics for mains?
I have a friend/ engineer who wants to try this on a symphony orch in a Decca Tree configuration. He is, I think, new to classical recording. I am not, but I have little experience with ribbons in classical situations as mains- mostly because I am such a fan of top end that I prefer condensor's sound over anything 'duller'.

Compact versions of mics
Hello all
I was wondering about mid sized mics. The DPAs that look like a capsule with a wire out the back (not the really tiny ones) and the Schoeps CCM compact mics spring to mind. Does anyone here think that these mics are compromised for the sake of size?
Cheers
John
