Looking for Mic to record Classical Flute

Forums

Hello Everyone,

I am looking to buy a decent mic to record classical flute. My budget is bellow $1,000 dollars.

I am looking for a mic that doesn't highlight the top end, and is warm and full bodied in the mid-low range.

I have been looking into the AT4060 or RODE K2.

Any suggestions are welcome,

Thank you in advance,

And I thought Dynamics were a good thing...

This probably goes under the mastering context, but how many of you have found the volume war translating out to acoustic music?

I will do dynamic manipulation- especially to the performances with massive dynamic swings. However, I have a chamber music client that has been killing me with requests for less dynamic range.

best mics, or best preamps on a budget?

Okay let's say I have a limited budget(true) and let's say I have not yet bought my gear(true) and let's say I won't have clients looking over my shoulder and asking 'why there is the noticeable absence of a U87'(true):

If I'm reading you guys right, I'm hearing that an SM57 can sound like gold run through a great pre, but a $2G mic sounds like yik run through a cheapo pre-amp.

Identify this mic?

Probably not as exciting as it sounds, but somebody dropped around a Sennheiser MD421 which looked to be too old to be useful, I thought I'd ask if anybody has any experience of these mics.

Its marked as an MD421-U-5, serial number 20947, and the clip slides onto it and is just held by gravity so it didn't look to be of much use.
