Hi, new to this forum. I have a AKG D880 Emotion mic, which I bought about 4 years ago. Recently, I've noticed a lot of mid-freq's in the recording, like the mic is completely missing its warmth that it used to have. I have the completely same setup as I did before, except Cool Edit Pro 2.0 instead of 1.1., and I can clearly tell the difference while listening to older records.

About two years ago I found a Studer (re-badged Schoeps) with an MK6 capsule for a very low price--$600. That capsle, like other Schoeps multi-pattern caps, does its thing via small shutters made of a vinyl material that deteriorates over time. The omni pattern was not happy, but I never used it for that.

I'm curious about these mics. I don't think I've ever seen one mentioned here regarding a mic strategy. As a previous inhabitant of the outside world, I was initially surprised not to see them mentioned more often -although I had since forgotten that they existed -I really should get out more often! I'm especially curious about the preamp.
