Splitting the mic signal
Forums
Hi! (new on this forum...)
Well, I have a small problem with splitting mic signals. I plan on doing some live recording and have to split all the mic signals. Do I have to split with a active unit (I noticed they are pretty expensive...), or could I just split the cables?

Neumann TLM 193 ok for overheads?
Forums
I purchased a tlm193 and am happy with it.
Question:
it works for everything but i'm wondering:
for drumoverheads, would it be good to get a second one?
As it doesn't have -10Db and low cut.
alternatives?
thanks- Mcsim

CAD M-9 mic?
Forums
I'm looking for a large diaphram tube condensor, mainly to record drums and vocals. I like to mic drums with just a (borrowed) GrooveTubes GT-1 as an overhead, and an SM-57 on the snare. I like the natural sound I get this way. Since the GT is borrowed I need to get my own mic soon.

Blumlein vs X/Y close miking
Forums
I’ve never had a chance to try a pair of figure-8 mics in Blumlein configuration, but I’m curious about it. Specifically, I’m curious about what happens when you close-mic an instrument like acoustic guitar (and yes, I know that ideally, Blumlein is something done at a greater distance in a good room).

choices, monitors, mics, preamps
Forums
Hi! I've just gotten into recording recently. I'm running a 2.53 Ghz Celeron, 256 megs RAM (need more, but it works!), using a Creative Soundblaster external USB device to get audio into my PC. Actually, I've got my old Tascam 424 mkIII as a pre-amp (lol), going from the RCA line outs on that into the SB device.

Forums
Hi friends of Recording.org
Ok, I know that this theme is old, but while I read yours comments in the Forum more dudes I have about the best mics for Toms.
Kurt prefers AT Pro35
Others: ATM 25, Sennheiser e604, MD421, Audix D2, SM57, Sennheiser MD 409, Electro-Voice 468
Is AT Pro 35 better that ATM 25 or viceverse?

Mic Power supply's a hummin-OK to use a ground lift adapter?
Forums
So there's one and only one thing in the studio here that introduces ground hum.
A power supply for a tube mic.
Everything's on one isolated circuit BTW.
A 3 to 2 prong ground lift adapter will silence this nutty piece o' hummin gear, but is it safe? (This mic will be used for a D/I'd electric guitarist who will be simulaneously playing and singing).
Help Me Buy a Mic - Part 2 - What is Bright/Thin vs Warm
Forums
Ok -I know this is going to sound stupid to most of you experienced recording artist/producers/engineers etc. But - what is a warm sound vs a thin or bright sounding mic?
Also - can you email me or allow me to download some sample MP3 or wav files with examples of what warm and bright/thin etc. If not, can you direct me to a link with some samples files - I appreciate it.
